Sam’s Scarf

Gauge: 21 st and 28 rows in cable/rev st st pattern
Size 5 ndls, about 200 yards of DK weight tweedy yarn

A friend is obsessed with a certain Scottish time travel show, and has the great fortune of attending a panel discussion with the cast, crew, and creators of the series. As an excuse to meet him and maybe have a photo op, I made this scarf for her to give to him.

Cast on 31 stitches, knit garter stitch (knit every row) for 5 rows
Switch to cable/reverse stocking stitch pattern:

row 1: knit 5 st, {knit 3 st, purl 3 st] repeat 3 times, knit 3 st, knit 5 st
row 2: knit 5 st, purl 3 st, knit 3 st repeat 3 times, purl 3 st, knit 5 st
row 3: knit 5 st, put 2 st on cable ndl and hold in back, knit 1 st, then knit 2 st from cable ndl, purl 3 repeat 3 times, repeat cable, knit 5 st
row 4: repeat row 2

Go until you are tired of it, it’s long enough, or you are about to run out of yarn.
Finish with 5 more rows of garter, and bind off in the manner of your choosing.
